About Koohigoth Charities
Koohi Goth Charities is based out of Arlington, Texas, USA, under Zafar and Atia Inc. that is a 501(c) 3, working for raising awareness and raising funds for Koohi Goth Women Hospital and Malir University of Science & Technology located in Bin Qasim Town near Landhi، Karachi, Pakistan. The project is managed through donations and philanthropic initiates by the Board of Governors and donors around the world. The services provided are free including education and healthcare.
Malir University of Science & Technology is an extension of the venture of Zafar & Atia Foundation Charitable Trust to provide quality university-level education to the rural community that has no access to high-level education in their area. Malir University provides free of cost undergraduate education. The faculties include
- Medical Technology
- Economics
- Development Sciences
- Education
The number of students who are enrolled for the four year degree program is 100 so far. Three new faculties are in works and projected to start in 2021. These include
- School of Nursing
- School of Pharmacy
- Doctor of Physiotherapy
Several other education programs have been running. These are Diploma/Certificate Programs.
- Licensed Practitioner Nurse (LPN)
- Midwifery Diploma
- Lab Technician
- Operation Theater Technician
- Anesthesia Technician
- ICU Technician
The number of students enrolled in LPN is 50; in Midwifery is 160; in medical technician program is 40. The students in Midwifery and nursing programs have a hostel at the campus to stay. The costs incurred are paid by donors including tuition, food and room. Javed Jabbar is the Chairman of the Malir University Advisory Council along with several doctors and experts
Koohi Goth Women Hospital is focused on treating diseases like obstetric fistula also known as Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), rectovaginal Fistula (RVF) and other gynecology-related problems for all communities in Pakistan especially in the rural areas. The facilities include:
- 200-bed hospital
- Outpatient Department (OPD) Services 450 patients per day
- Neo-Natal Ward 20 incubators
The patients come from all over Pakistan and neighboring countries as Koohi Goth Hospital for Women has been recognized as a regional center for VVF by United Nation agencies. The surgeries and hospital stay are free. The hospital’s initiatives have been recognized internationally including by the United Nations Children’s Fund, United Nations Population Fund, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Global Clinton Initiative, The Lancet, and the BBC. The new project for the Hospital includes
- Infectious Disease Ward 45 Bed Capacity
This is for female patients. Projected completion date is end of year 2020.
