Dr. Tipu Sultan

Dr. Tipu Sultan

Dr. Syed Tipu Sultan is the President of the Board of Koohi Goth Charities. He is the Chancellor of the Malir University of Science & Technology. His list of accomplishments is substantial. He has served as head of anesthesiology as well as medical superintendent at Karachi’s Civil Hospital. He has also been principal of Dow Medical College and dean of the faculty of anesthesiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He was the first Principal of Bahria Medical University and helped setup the new college. Among his professional contributions as head of anesthesiology at Civil Hospital, Dr. Sultan is especially proud of setting up its ICU facility, which he accomplished through private donations and a headstrong organization in 1991. It became the first-of-a-kind in the local public health sector, equipped with technology and systems for modern management of critical illness. This spirit of service also motivated Dr. Sultan during the devastating earthquake of October 2005 when he was active in medical relief, and coordinated the proper treatment of several individuals with complex, crippling injuries. Despite Dr. Sultan’s other interests, medicine dominates his home. His wife is a child specialist and both his sons are physicians, one specializing in orthopedics and the other, like his father, in anesthesiology. Dr. Sultan has been active in the organization “International Physicians to Prevent Nuclear War” and was President of South Asian Chapter of the organization.

Dr. Shershah

Dr. Sher Shah Syed is the moving spirit behind the Koohi Goth Hospital for Women. He is the founder of Pakistan National Forum on Women Health ( a non-government organization working for reproductive health) His work on helping fistula related patients is a pioneering effort in the South Asian region. His project “Training of Midwifery and Nursing Tutors” was one of new innovative programs that has been recognized internationally. Dr. Shershah is a graduate of Dow Medical College Karachi, Pakistan (Class 1978). He did his fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Ireland. At present he is Chief of Koohi Goth Hospital in Landhi, Karachi. Dr. Shershah Syed has been a very vocal voice for the indigent in Pakistan and was also Pakistan Medical Association Central Secretary General in past. He is the current President of International Society of Fistula Surgeons. He is married to Dr. Tayyaba and they have a daughter. He is also a writer and has published several books in Urdu.

Aftab Siddiqui

Aftab Siddiqui

Aftab Siddiqui is Member Board of Director, Zafar & Atia Inc. He was the President of Dallas Peace & Justice Center till Feb 2020. He was the Chair of the Muslim Community Center for Human Services, a nonprofit that provides charitable health and social services to population at-large. Aftab also volunteered with the United Way of Tarrant County and was the Co-Chair of Family Impact Council and sat on the Cabinet at Tarrant County United Way. He served in the Board of Texas Coalition to Abolish Death Penalty. As a member of Steering Committee, he played a key role in organizing the Ballot Box Barbecue (2002) – a mass voter registration event at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Irving. As a Vice Chair of American Muslim Alliance SW, he played a major role in organizing three Civil Rights Conferences (2003, 2004, and 2005) in Dallas; he sits in Board of Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas and is founding member of the Caucus. He is a past President of the Caucus. He was elected as a National Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012. Aftab is the former President of South Asia Democracy Watch - a nonprofit that focuses on the issues of democracy, women's rights and human rights in South Asia. He is founding Board Member of Pakistan American Association of Texas. Prior to migrating to the United States in 1993, Aftab played a key role in establishing an Amnesty International Chapter in Pakistan, where he was involved in campaigns against human rights violations and the death penalty. Aftab worked for 16 years at American Airlines until his retirement; he was deeply involved with the Diversity Initiative at work. Aftab also worked in production management and taught as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi. He has completed his BS (Elect), MBA, and MPA (University of Texas, Arlington). He is married to Yasmin and they have two sons; Saad and Asif Siddiqui.

Syed Fayyaz Hassan

Syed Fayyaz Hassan

Syed Fayyaz Hassan is an economist and data scientist by profession. He holds a Master of Science from Karachi University, Masters of Applied Science from Applied Economics Research Center and Master of Arts from Michigan State University. He is a political activist and social worker in Texas.He serves as Vice Chair. of Texas Democrats with Disabilities and is a member of Texas State Democratic Executive Committee. Syed Fayyaz Hassan is also founder and ex President of Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas and Co-Chair. of American Muslim Democratic Caucus. He also serve at South Asia Democracy Watch and Pakistan American Association of Texas. Syed Fayyaz Hassan is living in US since 1987 and has a long history of local and civil rights activism, starting from being President of Pakistan Student Association at Michigan State University in East Lansing Michigan. He lives in Arlington Texas with his wife Tazeen and two sons Babar and Faiz Hassan.

SABIHA SHAREEF

Sabiha Shareef

Sabiha Shareef (MA, MHA, MT) is one of our most active team members. She is a working mother and keeps a very busy schedule. We are happy that she is able to find time for Koohi Goth Charities. Sabiha comes from a medical background and works at Oklahoma Blood Institute. She is married to Dr. Syed Ahmed who is a General Surgeon and Intensivist. Additionally, he is Associate Professor of Surgery at Texas Tech University. They have three children. Adil is working as a physician; Naved is in second year Medical School while daughter Summer is a high school student. Sabiha lives in Amarillo. She has an artistic bent of mind and her exquisite taste is very well expressed in the décor of her home.

KHURRAM ALEEM

Khurram Aleem

Khurram Aleem is another important member of Koohi Goth Charities in United States. At the professional level, Khurram has had a rich career in the oil and gas industry. Currently he working at Enlink Midstream as Senior Commercial Ops Specialist. Prior to that, he was a Regional Economist/Financial Analyst at Shell Corporation. Khurram has lived and worked in Pakistan, Malaysia, UK, Brunei, Kazakhstan, Singapore, and US. He has a graduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and an MBA from University of Oxford. He is married and lives in Houston.
